Licensed Professional Counselor-Associate. The Associate part means that I am working on my first 3,000 hours of post-graduate clinical work and that I am required to have a supervisor. The benefit to you is that I am a recent graduate with 60 credit hours (rather than previously required 48 credit hours) of coursework and training; I am building my client base so I have appointments available; and I am closely supervised by a clinician with over 20 years of experience.
As an LPC-Associate and sole clinician in my private practice, I cannot be paneled by insurance companies. The benefit to you is that I do not have to disclose information about our work together to insurance companies that you might prefer to remain confidential. Also, some insurance companies set limits on the number of sessions you can receive for a particular issue or within the year. These limits are rarely sufficient, particularly when working with grief, attachment wounds, and relational trauma.
Your first session or so, you can expect to talk about what is troubling you, and what you are hoping to get out of therapy. You can expect a safe place where you can unburden yourself. You can expect to be treated with respect and compassion and without judgment. You can expect to have your experiences validated. Therapy is hard work, and you can expect to feel challenged and at times, emotionally drained. You can expect our work together to continue as long as it takes to reach your goals.
